The purpose of the Austin-Austen DNA project is to establish y-DNA profiles for each of the Austin immigrant lines, in order to guide people who do not know their ancestral line. It would help them eliminate lines that their y-DNA does not match, thus narrowing their search.
With this in mind, the Austin Families Association of America is offering free testing to family groups of Austins that have not already been tested. To qualify the Austin must meet one of the two rules listed below.
Requirements for First Test in a Database
A free Y-Chromosome 37 marker DNA test will be available to any Austin male for whom there are at least 100 members in our AFAOA database for his line and there are no tests in that family already.
Requirements for Second Test in a Database
A free Y-Chromosome 37 marker DNA test will be available to any male Austin family member for whom there are at least 100 members in our AFAOA database for his line, there is no more than one test in that family already and for whom there are at least six total generations of separation from the first tested member.
In both cases the person being tested must be a male Austin in that family and have his name in that Austin database.
